Another election has come and gone. As they say, all great political acts happen twice; once as tragedy and then as farce — and Trump 2.0 is certainly going to be a lot of that.
Many people in the special education community are anxious about what the administration might do to gut the various executive agencies, especially the Department of Education. I’m reminded of the mood in 2016, when educators were, frankly, scared to death of Betsy DeVos and her insane views on public education. We weathered that storm because DeVos didn't even try to touch special education.
There was no attempt to reckon with the IDEA because it's a Gordian knot; nobody has the political capital to simply untangle it, and nobody has the authority to cut it in half.
Yes, Trump has claimed he will dismantle the federal Department of Education. Suffice to say, this is not the first time Trump has promised to do something.
If you ask me, tuition reimbursement is here to stay.
The New York City DOE can delay matters, and try to defeat justice that way, but I don't see how a Trump administration could take any actions that would impact our families and their recoveries.
